Inspiration

Sports discussions today are fragmented across Reddit, Discord, X, YouTube, and live score apps. We wanted to build a single place where fans can follow live matches, watch along with creators, debate key moments using match and stats tagging and engage in data rich conversations.

What it does

Goatsbattle is a live sports discussion, voting and watch along platform. It combines real-time match data, live discussions, match moments tagging, athlete stats tagging, debate topics and conversation summaries to make following matches more engaging, organized and solve the issue of users hopping various different sites to get a full match experience. Users either watch their favourite creator on youtube in sync with the match, either comment in their live chat or comment in spaces of that particular match in other platforms such as reddit, twitter etc and finally use a platform like FotMob to track player and match stats. Goatsbattle unifies everything under one platform with rich features such a match moments tagging, athlete stats tagging, compare and vote athletes, watch along with their favourite creators without any manual syncing issues and chat anywhere.

How we built it

We built GoatsBattle using Astro, TypeScript, Cloudflare Workers, Durable Objects, Neon PostgreSQL, and Drizzle ORM. Codex along with GPT 5.6 Sol was used to architect the application before a single line of code was written and during the coding phase, every single decision was steered along with the help of GPT 5.6 Sol's intelligence.

Challenges we ran into

Building reliable real-time discussions at the edge was our biggest challenge. We had to synchronize live events, manage WebSocket connections, and keep fast enough for live matches. We eventually did it with Clouldflare durable objects as suggested by codex.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of building scalable, real-time production-ready, feature rich sports (to expand later) social media for voting, discussion and creator watch along platform that solves the fragmentation of sports fans of jumping across multiple platforms for getting the whole match experience.

What we learned

We learned that building actual production apps require experience that freshers like me don't have right off the bat so coding and architecting in pair with codex with GPT 5.6 was an eye opener in terms of how much we can achieve with guided discussions, testing and then deploying clean code. I was able to take this app to production level within just a week.

What's next for GoatsBattle

We plan to expand beyond football into more sports, improve AI-powered personalization, and launch mobile apps. Our long-term vision is to become the go-to platform for live sports discussions worldwide.
