University is a time for self exploration and discovery. As UCI students, we come here with dreams and aspirations; filled with the promise of endless opportunity. With that, it’s only natural that we set goals for ourselves in order to pursue these dreams.
Our user research highlighted that about half of participants struggle to keep up with their goals, and more than half attribute lack of motivation to this. Because of this we saw an opportunity to foster community to have UCI students connect with other like minded UCI students to serve as motivation and accountability tools to successfully achieve their goals.
Our project aims to motivate university students to achieve their goals by channeling their creativity into a digital scrapbook. Each completed goal is marked by an image or drawing, creating a visual record of their progress. Students are grouped with others who share similar goals, fostering diverse interactions and shared experiences. This creative expression empowers individuals, showcasing their journey and personal growth, while pushing them outside their comfort zones to expand their perspectives and skills.
Main Design
The core purpose of our app is to function as a goal tracker, helping users monitor and achieve their short-term and long-term objectives. By focusing on goal setting and progress tracking, the app provides a structured approach that ensures users stay motivated and focused on achieving them.
Progress tracking is implemented through a unique scrapbook mechanic. Each time a user completes a goal, they can draw, upload an image, or take a photo to add to pages in their digital scrapbook. This visual and creative method of documenting achievements not only provides a tangible representation of progress but also inspires users to continue working towards their goals. The scrapbook serves as a personalized record of growth and accomplishment, motivating users through creative expression.
The scrapbook mechanic inherently inspires creativity by encouraging users to visually document their achievements. This creative outlet enhances motivation, as users can see their progress and the fruits of their efforts in a visually appealing format. The act of creating and customizing their scrapbook entries adds a layer of personal investment and pride in their accomplishments.
To further enhance motivation and foster inclusivity, the app includes a group formation feature. Users are grouped with others who have similar goals, allowing them to connect with like-minded individuals. This feature promotes a supportive community where users can inspire and encourage each other. Sharing experiences and progress with peers who have similar aspirations creates a sense of camaraderie and collective motivation.
By combining goal tracking, creative expression, and community support, our app not only helps users achieve their goals but also contributes to a more inclusive and equitable society.
