Inspiration
After brainstorming and ideations, our project was inspired by a random chatbot generator outputting educational information. We aimed to target three main concepts: (1) helping users with being active- targeting the problem of commitment (2) making learning entertaining rather than an obligation (3) setting achievable goals.
Our project falls primarily under the theme of wellbeing. We recognize there is a problem amongst our cohorts where people are increasingly reluctant to try new things because there’s a notion that it may be too laborious. For example: learning a new language. The purpose of this application is to encourage open-mindedness through learning new skills in bite-sized amounts to make learning enjoyable rather than a chore.
What it does
Our app is designed to send out a random daily task to users such as doing 10 jumping jacks or learning a new word in french. After the user completes the task and checks it off, the app will keep a streak. There are also rewards that can be obtained if a streak is held for a long enough period of time.
The daily random task can be set according to user preference. It can coincide with an alarm clock as a way to stimulate them to be more awake for the day.
How we built it
To achieve this, we built our project through Figma, Photoshop, and the drawing application, metabang. We chose to use Figma as it allowed team members to collaborate and design the interface simultaneously. The use of photoshop was for designing artworks and the drawing application was used for our brainstorming sketches.
Challenges we ran into
We prioritized and took thoughtful considerations into designing something unique. The biggest challenge we encountered was creating a design that was meaningful to the function of our app. As well as ensuring that placements of buttons were logical and useful. We placed much effort into our branding, by coming up with a relevant theme with corresponding colours.
What we learned and are proud of
Through our project Goal’D, we learned that less is more. We are proud of our application’s simple yet practical concept. We wanted to achieve a balance of tasks and simplicity, knowing from our own experiences, being overloaded with tasks can be daunting and unmotivating. Our application of one task a day allows users to experience a sense of accomplishment by being able to complete a small-scale goal they have set for themselves.
What's next for Goal'D
We hope to make the application a reality by programming a physical version of it. As the application would greatly benefit us, the developers.
