Inspiration
You're typing away on your computer when all of a sudden your heart starts racing. Your hands become clammy, your stomach hurts and you can't think. You're having a panic attack. Panic attacks can be very disruptive. It is the body's way of reacting to a perceived threat. Panic attacks are a goldmine for wellness apps: you can code about anything that asks you how you're doing. However, we found that many of these existing websites were overwhelming the user with choices. The last thing you want to do when you feel yourself slipping is think about whether you need a counting exercise, a breathing exercise, or something else entirely. That's why we made Go With The Flow, a website that automates the decision-making and relieves the user from that burden.
What it does
Go With The Flow analyses the severity of your panic attack by attributing a numerical value to the symptoms you toggled and adding them up, creating a severity index. Based on this index, Go With The Flow makes a decision on whether or not to message a trusted person with an automated message to let them know about the situation, assuring the user's safety.
How we built it
Challenges we ran into
There were several issues involved in this project, especially since we are all either new to programming in general or new to Flask. We ran into several intricate errors, including Git branch conflicts, module download errors and linking our CSS to our Flask Python. Overall, our project did not work in the end but we're still happy with what we got done in just 5 and a half hours.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're very happy to have learned more about Python! It was something we wanted to get to know more and at the very least, we accomplished that today.
What we learned
We learned even more on team-collaboration, assigning team roles, using GitHub together and the importance of the Command Prompt! We learned more about using specific modules in Python, particularly Flask and Twilio.
What's next for Go With The Flow
Definitely implementing the full short vision at the very least, including a home page and more responsive CSS. We also originally planned on adding some audio elements to the page, which could be a great addition!
