Our inspiration for "Go with the Flo" was the question of how periods can be more sustainable. They are natural, but the products offered to women and menstruators are often terrible for the environment.
Go with the Flo is a website that educates people with periods on the impact of the products they are using, as well as giving them healthy alternatives. Our website consists of a resource page and a quiz to find period products that are just right for the user.
We first discussed the color palette of our website, and we decided on fun pinks and red. Then, we coded our navigation bar and styled our homepage. We then each worked on different pages, like making the graphs for the research page and creating the messaging animation, as well as creating an accurate, functional quiz.
We had a lot of trouble creating the charts showing the lifespan of period products because we couldn't figure out how to change the intervals of the y-axis on the graph, or set the origin to zero. The message animation on our homepage also was hard, because often times the messages wouldn't slide in at the right times or they would just stay in one part of the screen.
We're definitely proud of the look of the website. We love our Navigation Bar and the color palette of the website is really good. We're proud that we were able to build a working website that we like in just 24 hours.
We learned that in a hackathon goals are extremely important, and when they are realistic anything is possible with your product. We learned time management, as well as how to debug in that short amount of time. We also learned about that amazing feeling you get when that line of code you've spent two hours on finally works, and it's a feeling that is indescribable.
We will continue to update the UI of our website, and we would love to add new features, like a blog talking about our favorite products, or a forum where people can ask questions about their periods.
