Inspiration

Traffic congestion, high commuting costs, and environmental concerns inspired the GO Employee Transit Partnership (GET-Pass). Many employees drive due to expensive transit fares, while companies struggle with parking space shortages. By creating a cost-sharing solution, we can shift commuting habits, making transit more accessible, reducing emissions, and improving urban mobility.

What it does

GET-Pass is a public-private initiative where employers and the government subsidize 10-15% of a GO Monthly Pass, cutting commuting costs for employees. This encourages GO Transit use, reduces highway congestion, and increases fare revenue to support long-term transit sustainability.

How I built it

The plan was developed by analyzing transit financing models, corporate commuter benefits, and government funding structures. We created a scalable cost-sharing model where employers, the government, and employees contribute to discounted GO Train passes. Financial modeling helped estimate costs, employer participation, and potential ridership growth.

Challenges I ran into

Balancing government subsidies and employer contributions to ensure sustainability. Estimating the right participation level to maximize ridership impact without excessive costs. Addressing potential concerns from businesses about adopting transit incentives over parking benefits.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Designing a plan that could significantly reduce congestion and environmental impact in the GTA.
