Inspiration
We were inspired by the recent surge in world events caused by climate change, such as the wild fires in Canada and the recent hurricanes.
What it does
We created a python program that analyzes public sentiment through a dataset of Reddit posts using pandas. We then created a cute and whimsical game that teaches users how to fight climate change in their daily lives.
How we built it
We wrote the python program using python and pandas, matplotlib, and spacy. We developed the game using pygame.
Challenges we ran into
The dataset we were working with was very large and was difficult to work with. We overcame this by writing our python program in Kaggle notebook and only selecting a certain number of rows of the dataset to work with. We did not have much prior experience with pandas or pygame, so learning the syntax of all the commands was difficult.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the cute and whimsical graphics that we created in our game. We are also proud that we learned how to manipulate the dataset using pandas in python.
What we learned
We learned about public sentiment and how to analyze it using pandas. We also learned how to develop a game using pygame, which we were not familiar with before.
What's next for Gnome Home Crisis
We plan to continue improving the User Interface of our game. We also want to create topic clusters out of the reddit posts/comments, because we did not get to that part this weekend.
