About the Project

Our team was inspired to build this student marketplace web app after facing challenges buying and selling used goods as college students on a budget.

We learned how to collaborate effectively as a team, dividing up the work between the frontend, backend, and database. As this was our first time building a full-stack web application, it was a great learning experience.

To build it, we used React for the responsive frontend interface, Spring Boot framework to handle the backend API and routing, and MySQL for the database to store user profiles and listings. We implemented registration and login for users, CRUD functionality to manage listings, and a messaging system to enable communication between buyers and sellers.

Some challenges we faced included:

  • Implementing search and filtering of listings
  • Building the messaging functionality between users
  • Storing images and optimizing performance
  • Testing and debugging the APIs
  • Deploying the web app online

Overall, this project taught us web development skills, team collaboration, and problem-solving. We are proud to have built a platform that helps university students access affordable goods and learn outside the classroom.
