As we have seen the generation gap have been widening these years, making new friends and learning things becoming more difficult under COVID-19, we hope to provide a platform for people, especially elderlies and youth, to experience more about different things, at least by talking to a "fresh" group of people and stepping out of their comfort zones.
What it does
(can check out our pitch video) Basically, this is a friend finding, chatting, and language learning app. The most different thing as compared to others is that our target users are the elderly and youngsters. By finding "interesting" elderlies and youngsters, both parties can learn language as both of them possibly come from different countries, they can also learn their interests, and a wide range of stories, experiences and current trends.
How we built it
We used React Native and Firebase.
Challenges we ran into
Time constraint is our biggest enemy. We do not have enough time to build the complete app. Very sadly, our chatting function is only supporting pure-text now. In the future, we hope we can fully support the stickers, voice recording and other media.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have done a lot during these 24 hours! We are very proud of ourselves that during such short amount of time we can complete all these tasks! The greatest accomplishment that we are proud of is of course our project idea, as we really believe that our application would be useful to solve all the problems we are targeting.
What we learned
A lot a lot! For me (Karen), it's my first time using React Native, and it is very challenging for me to do this in 24 hours! However, during the process, we have learnt a lot technical skills. Not only that, we have also learnt a lot regarding COVID-19 and generation gap!
What's next for GME (010)
There's a lot more we can do, including the bugs we need to fix :'), as well as future extensions such as advanced gamification and language error correction.
