Inspiration

All 3 of our team members have had family members who have had diabetes for years. Growing up, we would often see them poke needles into their body, often multiple times a day, just to check their glucose levels. As children, we were always afraid of needles and wondered why we still used such an archaic method for such an important measurement. So we decided to solve this problem.

What it does

GlucoSmart is a smart sensor that checks a person's glucose in a non-invasive manner. No blood is required! All a person has to do is put their finger into the 3d printed design we have and wait for a few seconds. This will give them their glucose value. Afterwards, they can navigate to our app where they will be able to see their results in real time. Their results will even be shared with doctors and close family members so they can help the patient satisfy all their medical needs. We even have a custom LLM that is trained to answer question regarding diabetes and glucose levels.

How we built it

We built the hardware using an infrared LED, ESP32, and an infrared photodiode. This was combined with our software product which is an app built using react-native. We also used Google's Gemini model as our foundational model before customizing the LLM.

Challenges we ran into

We had trouble in the real-time data gathering and displaying because of hardware-software connections. We also struggled initially to convince people to give us their blood as samples for our data gathering.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We worked on a hardware project for the first time and we were able to build a project that no one has been able to make yet.

What we learned

We learned how to integrate software and hardware.

What's next for Glucosmart

We want to take this commercial and help people check their glucose without drawing any blood.
