Inspiration

Medical reports can be difficult to understand because of complex terminology and technical information. We wanted to make them easier for everyday users to understand.

What it does

GloxMed converts PDF and DOCX medical documents into clear, structured, plain-English explanations using AI. Users can also add patient context, symptoms, and doctor instructions and generate a PDF report.

How we built it

Built using Python and PySide6, with PyMuPDF and python-docx for document extraction, OpenRouter for AI processing, and ReportLab for PDF generation. Profiles and generated reports are stored locally.

Challenges we ran into

Handling different document formats, creating reliable AI prompts that avoid fabricated medical information, dynamically finding available free AI models, and packaging the application into a standalone executable.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built a complete desktop application from document upload to AI explanation and PDF report generation, with a polished UI and local data management.

What we learned

We learned how to combine desktop development, document processing, AI APIs, asynchronous processing, structured prompting, and PDF generation into one complete application.

What's next for GloxMed

We plan to improve document support, add OCR for scanned reports, enhance AI model handling, improve accessibility, and continue making GloxMed more reliable and useful for understanding medical information.
