Inspiration

"Looks are often the first impression of an individual; it has a profound influence on how people treat and perceive you as an individual."

The app stems from my personal life where I was just an average joe getting through everyday life, unnoticed by people. There was a triggering point in my life which enabled me to take the decision of upgrading my looks.

I combed through the internet for everything that could help me level up. and today I have become a far better version of myself. I want to share this wealth of knowledge with people in mass and I feel like there is no better platform than this hackathon.

What it does

The app is intended to maximize your looks and thus it comes with several features like:

  1. Caloric Estimator This section by default targets a weight loss of 1.5 lbs./week, which is proven to be ideal for lean muscle development according to several research papers. You will receive the number of calories you should be aiming for per day.
  2. Daily Caloric Tracker This section allows you to input breakfast, lunch and dinner details for the day for an estimation of the total calories you have consumed. This will be compared to the target calorie to see if you have meet/exceeded your goal. The quality of the food will be assessed for nutritional value.
  3. Hair and Outfit Optimization This section will tailor your hair and outfit according to your features like Ethnicity, face shape, Hair Type, Eye Type and Build Type.
  4. Personalized Grooming This section will offer specific grooming tips along with a fitness routine depending on the gender.

How I built it

This was built using AWS PartyRock app builder.

Challenges

The main challenge I faced was regarding prompt engineering. The LLM (Claude) would sometimes ignore certain instructions in the prompt and thus I had to delve into the best prompt engineering practices as per Anthropic's guidelines. I also found that the model pays special attention to the content enclosed within XML tags, and thus enclosing certain details within the tags helped improve LLM'S responses.

Accomplishments

A well-functioning app that incorporates creativity and a solid knowledge of prompting techniques.

What I learned

Effective Prompt Engineering - I learnt how to exactly manipulate the language model (As in Claude) to get the best possible responses.

What's next for GlowUp Genius

Upon receiving positive reception, there's a lot of features that could be added. We could make the app more customizable as per an individual's preference (For instance, a user would want to lose 1 lbs or even 2lbs a week instead of the default recommended 1.5lbs metric).
