Inspiration
Inspiration for the game was 2D platformers such as Geometry Dash and Stick Fight: The Game.
What it does
The Game is a 2D platform parkour race from start to finish and it's played as 2 player local multiplayer. The ragdoll physics based players have to tackle their way through various routes and avoid obstacles and dangers. The first person to get to the end wins, alternatively one player can die and lose the game. The obstacles/ dangers involve turrets, swinging axes, crates and more!
How we built it
We built it in Unity 2D using C#. We created a few assets used in the game within Photoshop.
Challenges we ran into
The ragdoll physics was a new method of programming in Unity 2D, of which introduced various physics based issues such as movement, jumping and speed.
A clear example would be the jump mechanics of which the user was able to abuse by repeatedly spamming the jump key, making it easy to infinitely fly around the map - a very unfair advantage! James managed to fix this eventually :)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Cool, Colourful and Bright Neon world. Wacky yet fun and playful ragdoll physics. An overall exciting and fun local multiplayer experience.
What we learned
Using Unity 2D physics. Unity Shaders and postprocessing. Ragdoll character physics.
What's next for Glow Runners
Online multiplayer. More obstacles and dangers. Larger Maps with more diverse natures and elevations.
Unity Collab was used for VCS, hence the single commit in GitHub!
