What it does
GloBot is a multi-use Discord bot, which can do anything from providing weather & air quality for a specific city, periodically sending environmental tips to enrich your every day life, playing a mini-game related to saving the environment, and finding volunteer opportunities and environmental news in areas near you. In tandem with the Discord bot, there is also a website which showcases a simplistic yet intuitive UI that has all the features of the bot, as well as an about me page to show what our bot does.
How we built it
The website is built with an HTML front-end and the bot use sselenium, aiohttp and BeautifulSoup to web scrape pages as well as several APIs that the commands use.
Challenges we ran into
Working with selenium and APIs were difficult, and took several hours to figure out and bug fix. On the website, design choices and making an intuitive and clean UI were diffcult.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
game and weather command
What we learned
We learned how to work under time constraints better, and how to manage stress.
What's next for GloBot
We will be adding several more commands to the bot, and hope to add several new features to the website, built-in functions such as a carbon footprint calculator.
