Inspiration

I was inspired by the ability of Chainlink Oracles to pull data from the outside world into the blockchain.

What it does and how we built it

Being fairly new to blockchain technologies, I decided that it would be a good learning opportunity to create a dynamic NFT. This NFT utilized the Chainlink Oracles to query API data from Open Weather and pull in real time weather data of the city depicted in the NFT.

I utilized a lot of the Hackathon videos from this season and last season as well as the Chainlink Docs and Blogposts.

Challenges we ran into

  1. Being completely overworked by my full-time job 😅 (even though we had a month, I still ran into time issues lol)
  2. Kovan testnet had super slow performance
  3. limited Rinkeby oracles
  4. could not get any oracle data to return to me
  5. did not have time to fully connect images to the NFT code

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I was red-pilled onto crypto from an investment perspective earlier this summer. As a recent bachelors graduate in Computer Science and current full time Java Applications developer, I immediately was hooked on reading white papers and learning about the technology behind all of these projects. I spent the summer trying to catch myself up on the investments in my portfolio- including Chainlink. During this hackathon, I took a step away from the investment standpoint and tried to dive deep into the development side of blockchain. This is my first hackathon and even though I did not get to finish my project, I am still super happy with what I was able to get done.

What we learned

I learned the basics of Solidity during the course of this month as well as how to deploy an ERC-721 contract. I also learned how to integrate Chainlink into my contracts to pull in real-world data and I learned about IPFS as a service.

What's next for Globetrotters

After this hackathon, my next steps are to complete this NFT project so that I can close the chapter on this project. I want to continue learning about blockchain development- I want to know everything about it!! Definitely will be working on more projects after this hackathon!
