Inspiration

It was in the first semester of 9th grade that we learned about the seriousness of global warming by a documentary called An Inconvenient Truth about the US Vice President Al Gore’s speeches and campaign on climate change — global warming. We are all deeply touched and concerned. Therefore, we took the opportunity of Hackathon and advocated about global warming.

What it does

Learn GlobalWarming provides detailed information of the specific impacts of each big contributors of global warming. Viewers could learn about global warming by a little dynamic show of effects of pollution sources on our planet. What is global warming? What causes global warming? What are the effects of global warming? How can we work to solve global warming? All of them in Learn GlobalWarming.

How we built it

We programmed the website in HTML, CSS, Python, and Javascript format of language using Visual Studio Code and GitHub. LearnGlobalWarming is divided in to three part: Game, Background Information and Quiz! It's a little dynamic appliance that it shows the picture of earth after clicking on the pollution sources contributed to global warming We were trying to make the process of learning and understanding fun as we are hoping it would pique more people's interests in global warming's influence and what it really is. The Background Information is where we put information about us, our mission, citation of knowledge the website teaches, and a brief introduction about global warming's causes. Lastly, Quiz is a fun part that you could use to test out what you have learned!

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge is the quiz part. We tried the code for many times, but it was not working. We tried for an hour. We went online to try to search for relevant knowledge. There were problems with every modification. For example, the text was not displayed, it could not judge right and wrong, no reaction, etc. the code were confusing. We needed to use many javascript to run it. There were many logic problems or code problems in it. However, after trying it for many times, we did it right. We also run into problems with content layout. The things we put in the first place were always messy, and they were not in the place we wanted them to be. We adjusted the CSS coding constantly until it was completely perfect.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This is a very important achievement for all of us. For the first time, we encoded what we can imagine, and we used it to realize our goal. Coding was a challenge for all of us, but we did it well. A lot of time and effort paid off, we are very pleased with our results.

What we learned

We learned about global warming much more than before. We learnt it before, but now we know more in details and depth. We learned how to code in new languages, such as to program using Javascript and to check correct and incorrect answers when we're doing a quiz.

What's next for GlobalWarmingProject

We will keep on carrying out our goals of informing and educating people about global warming. We'll be paying attention to global warming all the time. For this project, there are still a lot of things we wanted to add and create. We have a significant amount of ideas, but implementation is difficult. We may revise the site further in the future, as we will learn more about programming.
