Our project is a time zone calculator to calculate the difference of 2 places of different time zones, to effectively establish meeting times and more.
Inspiration: Recently, one of us struggled with the meeting times of our relative living in another country. Entering this hackathon too, we had to convert the times of all the dates into our own, and it made us wonder, if there was a way to create a website to do all this for those like us.
What it does: It establishes a two way connection between two places, and calculates for you the difference of the two in an easy and aesthetic manner.
How we built it: Using VS Code, GitHub, and Bootstrap, we managed to create multiple html files that were linked together.
Challenges we ran into: Time efficiency (lol ironic for a time-baesd building app) and multiple GitHub and HTML errors. It was our first time using GitHiub, and so we were felt so behind from the others that it sort of took a mental toll on us.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: We almost gave up on the project, because we were struggling so much. But we made it through and created a website that we're pleased with, especially after working through the night (while watching horror movies).
What we learned: We definitely learned about GitHub's repos, pulls, pushes, forks, and how to do stuff in VS Code's terminal. Everything was a first for us, and so pretty much everything was new. We definitely learned that what we learned and applying it to real code were very very different.
What's next for Globalign: With the right new knowledge, we could create a fully working website, so that it projects a full world map of where everybody is. We would develop the home page to show all current and future meetings, and make a working place for users to send quick chats to each other (especially to notify others of emergency device issues, communicate, and send other info during meetings)
