Inspiration

We were inspired by how easy it has become for small businesses to sell globally, but how hard it still is to handle taxes across borders. SMB founders often rely on spreadsheets, manual research, and guesswork for VAT, GST, and sales tax, which wastes time and increases the risk of penalties. We wanted to solve that.

What it does

Global Tax Engine is a web app that instantly calculates cross-border tax based on sale amount, product type, and buyer/seller location. It helps SMB sellers get a quick, compliant tax breakdown.

How we built it

We designed it as a lightweight MVP focused on the most valuable feature: real-time tax calculation for top jurisdictions like the US, EU, India, Canada, Brazil, and Australia.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was handling the complexity of tax rules, which vary by country, product, and business presence. Keeping the app accurate while making it simple was tough.

We turned a complex financial problem into a practical, user-friendly solution with real startup potential.

What we learned

We learned how important product thinking, scope control, and user trust are when building fintech tools.

What's next for Global Tax Engine

Next, we plan to add Stripe Tax integration, 100+ country support, and an AI Tax Assistant to make compliance even faster and smarter.
