Inspiration

The idea was sparked by something incredibly simple: every woman deserves a moment of calm — but finding it shouldn't be stressful. Whether it's a Saturday facial, a quick nail appointment before brunch, or a deep conditioning treatment after a tough week, these rituals are essential self-care. Yet the process to book them is fragmented, frustrating, and inconsistent across countries.

We realized: there’s no global, calendar-friendly platform that helps women discover and book trusted beauty & wellness experiences by location and date. We wanted to fix that — beautifully.

What it does

Our project is a Global Self-Care Calendar Checker — a smart, intuitive platform that helps users:

🌍Filter by country, city, and street 💆‍♀️ Choose from 3 top self-care rituals: skincare, hair care, nail care 📅 View real-time availability from providers nearby ⭐ Automatically rank results by review score and popularity 📍 See service details, address, and map location 🔗 Book instantly via deep link, with the option to save to calendar (Google, iCal, Apple) It’s like OpenTable for self-care — with a global map, a personal touch, and a calming UI anyone can use.

How we built it

Frontend: React.js (web) with responsive design for mobile-first access Backend: Node.js with Express, Postgres + PostGIS for geo-filtering Integrations: Google Maps API for location autocomplete, Fresha API (mocked), iCal generator for “Add to Calendar” feature Ranking engine: Custom scoring algorithm based on normalized review and popularity weights Design: Figma for wireframes + pastel brand palette for cross-generational friendliness 🚧 Challenges we ran into

Global location accuracy: Matching addresses and provider data from different regions required fuzzy matching + map-based validation

⏱️ Availability normalization: Booking APIs vary widely in format and timezone handling; we had to create a unified slot model 📱 Designing for all ages: Making something that feels intuitive for Gen Z and Gen X/Boomers pushed us to rethink UI patterns and text language 🔒 Data freshness: Ensuring that provider availability was updated frequently without rate-limiting or over-fetching required careful cache balancing

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built and demoed real-time self-care booking discovery in less than a week Developed a lightweight global search filter down to the street level Created a seamless "Add to Calendar" feature with live provider links Designed an inclusive brand experience that feels warm, modern, and trustworthy

What we learned

There’s huge untapped value in making everyday services globally discoverable and bookable Beauty and self-care are deeply personal, and design matters as much as data People will trust a platform if it speaks their language, respects their time, and makes them feel seen Building globally requires thinking locally — from UX to timezones to trust markers

What’s next

🌍 Launch pilot in 3 cities: Toronto, Lagos, and Paris 📱 Add social sharing (“Booked my glow-up 💅 #SelfCareSaturday”) 🔐 Partner with leading booking APIs (Fresha, Mindbody, Treatwell) 💬 Integrate a personalized AI assistant for booking suggestions 💼 Launch a B2B dashboard for salons to manage reviews, slots, and premium features 📈 Scale to 20+ cities and 3 languages by Q2 2026
