Inspiration

The idea for Global Real Estate was born from firsthand experiences with the barriers women and underserved communities face in accessing secure property and financial services. Growing up in Rwanda, I saw my mother and other women struggle with complicated, opaque property transactions and limited access to credit. Inspired by these challenges—and my training in bioinformatics at Stanford—I realized that technology could bridge the gap, creating safer, more inclusive pathways to property ownership and financial empowerment.

What it does

Global Real Estate is a digital platform that empowers women and underrepresented groups to confidently navigate property transactions and access affordable financial products. Users can verify property titles using AI, make secure digital payments, apply for micro-loans or mortgage pre-approvals, and access financial literacy resources—all from their phone or computer. By combining proptech and fintech, we help close the gender gap in asset ownership and build generational wealth.

How we built it

We started with deep community engagement—workshops, interviews, and surveys—to map out pain points. We then built an MVP using: Python and JavaScript (React) for the application logic and user interface AWS for cloud hosting and scalability PostgreSQL for secure data storage APIs for payments (Stripe), property registries, and notifications (Twilio) We worked closely with women’s organizations and local financial institutions to co-design and pilot our solution, incorporating user feedback at every stage.

Challenges we ran into

Trust: Overcoming skepticism of digital solutions in a sector that is traditionally offline. Regulatory compliance: Navigating complex land and financial regulations across regions. User diversity: Designing an accessible platform for users with varying literacy and tech skills. Integration: Ensuring seamless, secure connections with government and banking APIs.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully launched our beta platform and onboarded our first 200 users, 70% of whom are women. Secured partnerships with two major financial institutions and several women’s business networks. Built a trusted community, with early users reporting increased confidence and ease in property dealings. Received recognition from local tech and entrepreneurship organizations for our inclusive, impact-driven approach.

What we learned

User education is essential: Success depends not just on technology, but on helping users build trust and understanding. Community partnerships multiply impact: Collaborating with women’s groups and local leaders accelerates adoption and relevance. Continuous feedback drives excellence: Regular user input led to valuable improvements in design and features. Flexibility is key: Adapting to regulatory and technical challenges requires an agile, solution-oriented team.

What's next for Global Real Estate

Scale up to reach 1,000+ active users and expand to two more cities in the next six months. Integrate additional financial partners and property registry APIs to offer more choices and coverage. Launch a financial literacy campaign and support hotline tailored for women new to property investment. Expand our team and advisory board, bringing in more local voices and expertise. Continue refining our platform based on user feedback, with a focus on accessibility and security. Our vision is to become the leading digital gateway for property and financial empowerment in Africa, starting with women and growing to include all underserved communities.
