Inspiration

The Community Day Center of Waltham has recently become a hot spot for a growing number of migrants and immigrants, who are in urgent need of shelter, food, warm clothing, medical treatment and legal aid. As college students in Waltham, we've witnessed firsthand the growing influx of migrants and immigrants, each with their own story, seeking refuge and a fresh start. The CDCW has informed us the needs facing these individuals. They seek the basics for survival and a chance for a new beginning - shelter, food, warm clothing, medical treatment, and legal aid. However, in Massachusetts, the resources they can access vary significantly based on their documentation status. This disparity is most challenging for undocumented individuals who face considerable limitations. Therefore, we were inspired to create a guide that would tell each individual the resources they can access, based on their documentation status.

What it does

If someone is aware of their documentation status, but doesn’t know what resources are available to them, they can click on their status to view what is available in the greater Waltham area. If someone is not aware of their status, and or is undocumented, they can click “no” and view the resources available for housing, healthcare, legal aid, food programs, and education. For those who are not Native English speakers, translation options are available to switch the language from English to whatever language is needed.

How we built it

Using Sublime-text we coded a fully functional website that can serve as a resource guide for those who are trying to build a new life in the US

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Found a lot of resources for immigrants to help acclimate them to life in the US. Built a website from scratch to serve as a guide

What we learned

We learned that there are many types of documentation status that immigrants can have, and therefore the types of resources available to them are different for each status.
