Inspiration
The inspiration for Global Chef - Fiesta Tacos came from a love of Mexican cuisine and the idea of creating a fun and engaging way to celebrate tacos through gameplay. The project aimed to combine fast-paced order management mechanics with vibrant visuals, offering players a delightful and interactive experience. It also seeks to encourage creativity and strategic thinking, making it entertaining for all ages.
What it does
Global Chef - Fiesta Tacos is a standalone web game where players earn points by completing taco orders and performing tasks in the cafe. The game features multiple locations, such as the Cafe Office and Kitchen, where players can use their points to buy upgrades and unlock additional content. The goal is to complete orders as quickly and accurately as possible while managing resources and improving gameplay efficiency. Audio and graphic assets enhance the immersive experience, making the game visually appealing and engaging.
How we built it
The game was developed using HTML5 and vanilla JavaScript, ensuring lightweight performance and accessibility across web browsers. The audio and graphic assets were designed to create a cohesive and visually appealing user experience. All game content, including assets and user progress, is hosted on AWS services, providing reliable scalability and availability. This hosting solution also enables quick updates and seamless content delivery.
Challenges we ran into
- Optimizing performance for smooth gameplay across different browsers and screen sizes was a significant challenge.
- Managing graphic and audio assets efficiently while ensuring fast load times on the web.
- Integrating AWS services for hosting and ensuring the game is stable and scalable without using heavy frameworks or engines.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Successfully delivering a standalone web game hosted entirely on AWS, showcasing the potential of HTML5 and vanilla JavaScript for dynamic game development.
- Designing an engaging gameplay experience with minimal dependencies, making it lightweight and accessible.
- Creating visually appealing locations and intuitive mechanics that resonate with players.
- Setting the stage for a potential franchise by building a strong, scalable foundation.
What we learned
This project underscored the versatility and power of HTML5 and vanilla JavaScript for developing standalone web games. We gained valuable experience in optimizing performance, managing assets effectively, and leveraging AWS hosting services for scalability. Additionally, we learned how to balance simplicity with engaging gameplay to create an enjoyable experience for players.
What's next for Global Chef - Fiesta Tacos
- Short-term goal: Redesign the game locations (rooms) to enhance visuals and add more content to enrich the gameplay experience.
- Long-term goal: Expand the project into a series of games, introducing new cuisines and cultural elements to celebrate food from around the world. This includes developing games focused on other countries' cuisines and expanding the franchise.
- Additionally, while this version is a standalone web game, plans are in place to continue developing native mobile versions for iOS and Android platforms, broadening the reach and accessibility of the game.
