Inspiration
I've always believed design is silent — until it's not.
Bad UI doesn't scream; it slowly repels. But unless you’re a designer or hiring one, most developers have no idea what's wrong with their layout. I’ve been there. Hours spent tweaking font sizes, padding, button placements — yet something still feels off. No clarity. No feedback. Just vibes.
That frustration sparked a simple thought:
“What if an AI could just look at my screen... and tell me what sucks?”
That's how GlitchSnare was born: A tool that would analyze your UI, point out flaws, and simulate user focus — all in seconds, all visually.
And yes — I also wanted it to roast you a little. Because tough love sticks.
What it does
GlitchSnare is an AI-powered design critic and visual focus simulator.
Upload any UI screenshot → choose your mode → click Analyze and BOOM:
💬 Get 3–5 bullet-point critiques (mocked as if from a UX designer)
🎯 See where user attention goes with a pulsing heatmap overlay
📈 Get a UX Score (0–100) with a Mood Emoji (😬 or 🔥)
📄 Download a beautiful PDF report — like it came from an expensive design audit
It’s a fast, fun, and slightly savage way to get instant feedback on bad UI…
Designers give advice. GlitchSnare throws shade.
How we built it
I used Bolt.new to generate the foundational code with a single, detailed prompt. From there:
I structured the UX into 3 modes: Critique, Focus Heatmap, Both
Created a clean, center-focused layout using HTML/CSS/JS
Designed fake heatmap blobs using animated divs with radial-gradient() — to simulate eye-tracking zones
Built a UX Score ring with animated stroke + emoji mood meter
Added a downloadable PDF feature — styled to feel like a real design audit
Deployed on Netlify and made the site mobile responsive + dark/light toggle
I kept all AI feedback mocked (due to time & scope), but structured it so it could be easily replaced with GPT or vision models later.
Challenges we ran into
🚧 Challenges I Faced
Time This was a weekend build with very limited hours. Balancing polish vs. functionality was the hardest part.
Bolt Prompting Getting Bolt to generate both the heatmap overlay and the UX critique logic in one go took a few tries — and a very precise prompt. I had to manually tweak layout & responsiveness.
Visual Design I'm not a designer. But I wanted the app to feel premium — like it was made by a startup, not just a hackathon participant. That meant extra care in colors, spacing, animation, and tone.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
That we went beyond function and aimed for delight.
That this isn’t just another productivity clone — it's a judgy, glowing design snitch.
That we didn’t just build for judges — we built for real humans with real UX pain.
That we told a story — not just shipped a stack.
What we learned
Simplicity is UX. I removed features instead of adding them. Every click had to feel clean and intentional.
Emotion drives impact. Roasting the user with fun copy made the experience more memorable.
Polish wins. It’s not about how much you build — it’s about how smooth it feels.
What's next for GlitchSnare
🔌 Real AI feedback integration: Plug GPT-4 + Vision APIs for true screenshot analysis
🎯 Focus tracking using webcam (optional opt-in): Simulate real eye-tracking
📦 SaaS onboarding: Turn this into a tool for indie hackers & startup teams
🧩 Figma plugin: So designers can get roasted directly inside their design flow
🪄 Voice integration with ElevenLabs: Let a sarcastic AI speak your critique We see this becoming “Lighthouse for UX.” Fast, punchy, and brutally honest design feedback — whenever you need it.
Final Words GlitchSnare isn’t just an AI toy. It’s a reflection of a real need: Instant, honest, emotional UI feedback — for devs, by devs.
I built this to help solo founders, indie hackers, and anyone who’s ever whispered,
“Why does this layout feel… weird?”
With a little sass and a lot of soul — GlitchSnare has your back.
