Inspiration

We were inspired by fast-paced mobile games like Road Glider and Subway Surfers, as well as creative Roblox experiences like Glider Simulator. Our goal was to create a glider game that combines the thrill of flight with a deep progression system—easy to pick up, yet rewarding to master over time.

What it does

Glider Quest is a mobile glider simulation and racing game. Players control various types of gliders and race through procedurally generated tracks, aiming to break their personal flight distance records. The game is designed around 3–5 minute short-session gameplay loops, paired with long-term upgrade and progression systems.

Key features include:

  • Procedural track generation system
  • Flight physics optimized for mobile devices
  • Mobile-friendly UI design
  • Fast-paced levels with upgrade-based progression

How we built it

We followed a mobile-first development strategy, focusing on performance optimization and touch control experience. The project was built using Meta Horizon Desktop Editor, with additional tools such as Blender, Audacity, and Unity for asset creation, sound design, and visual effects.
We also leveraged AI tools like Gen AI, ChatGPT, and Copilot to streamline parts of the development workflow. Throughout development, we adopted an agile approach, running frequent internal playtests to collect feedback and iterate quickly.

Challenges we ran into

  • Designing responsive, intuitive glider controls for touchscreen devices
  • Balancing visual quality with Horizon Worlds’ capacity limitations
  • Ensuring multiplayer stability and synchronization in procedurally generated maps

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Built a smooth and satisfying glider control system for mobile
  • Successfully implemented a highly replayable procedural track generator
  • Developed a lightweight yet strategic multiplayer system
  • Created a clean, intuitive UI optimized for various screen sizes

What we learned

  • The importance of early playtesting in refining mobile controls
  • How to implement efficient procedural generation under mobile hardware constraints
  • Strategies for balancing short-term fun with long-term progression to improve player retention

What's next for Glider Quest

We plan to expand Glider Quest with the following updates:

  • More glider types and customization options
  • New biomes and terrain variations for richer exploration
  • Competitive leaderboards and seasonal event systems
  • Social features like friend challenges and co-op gliding
  • A limited release to gather user feedback and prepare for a global launch
