Inspiration

In the glass processing and fabrication industry, manual layout planning often leads to massive material wastage, high operational costs, and human error. Glass Optimizer Pro was engineered to solve this exact problem—transforming a complex industrial workflow into a fast, automated, and precision-driven digital solution that maximizes material yield and eliminates scrap waste.

What it does

Glass Optimizer Pro is a high-performance desktop application designed for industrial glass cutting and inventory management. Key features include:

• Seamless Excel Integration: Import bulk order data and stock sheets directly via Excel files.
• Smart 2D Optimization: Instantly calculates optimized cutting patterns to achieve maximum yield and minimum waste.
• Visual Verification & PDF Export: Provides clear cutting layouts, precise coordinate verification, and generates clean, professional PDF reports for workshop floors.

How we built it

• Core Engine: Built with Python to handle complex 2D nesting and layout optimization algorithms efficiently.
• Desktop Framework: Developed using Electron, HTML, and JavaScript to provide a smooth, responsive, and cross-platform native desktop experience.
• Automation & Reporting: Integrated dynamic document generation pipelines for instant report and layout exports.

Challenges we ran into

Developing a robust 2D cutting optimization algorithm required heavy mathematical tuning to handle various stock dimensions, kerf clearances, and trim margins without causing UI latency or calculation bottlenecks.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully built an end-to-end industrial production tool that bridges the gap between raw inventory management and CNC-ready output, completely removing the need for manual estimation.

What we learned

Gained deep practical insights into industrial software architecture, bridging heavy computational scripts (Python) with modern desktop UI frameworks (Electron), and tailoring software specifically for manufacturing environments.
