Inspiration

Our inspiration stemmed from the inequality in wages based on the fact of a person's gender.

What it does

The website allows an individual to make an account and submit their company, position, salary, and gender. Upon doing so, they have access to all the other companies that have been submitted by other users. The individual can search for their company to check what their position makes within different genders to see if it truly is unequal. The user can also modify their profile in case of any changes regarding their employment, or even remove it from the database.

How we built it

We built the website with Javascript, Pug, MongoDB, Express.js, and Node.js. Sahat's Hackathon Starter Template was a massive help.

Challenges we ran into

This was our first hackathon and our first time building a website, so almost everything in the beginning was a challenge for us. We spent most of the hackathon learning all of these new frameworks and tools, and didn't have much time to implement our ideas to their fullest potential.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're very proud we were able to make a working product before the end time. With this being our first hackathon, the pressure was on to finish a working project, and we're glad we got it functional.

What we learned

We learned a lot about web development, especially with Express.js and Pug. Essentially everything involved in this project was new to us except for MongoDB.

What's next for Glass Ceiling

We hope to make some improvements such as giving the company pages a more eye-catching look (rather than just plaintext) and adding an autocomplete feature to the company search box.
