GlamCode OS — Try It Before You Book It

A beauty customer usually makes the most important decision before the appointment: “Will this actually look good on me?”

GlamCode OS turns that uncertainty into something customers can see and act on.

GlamCode OS is a production SaaS platform for beauty businesses, built around the real workflow of salons and independent professionals: services, customers, appointments, and WhatsApp communication.

For this hackathon, I significantly expanded that existing platform by integrating three YouCam APIs directly into its real service catalog and booking workflow:

  • YouCam Hair Color v1.0 A curated palette of 25 salon-oriented shades, including black, brown, honey blonde, copper, burgundy, and more.
  • YouCam Hair Transfer v2.1 Used for real haircut and hairstyle previews while preserving the customer's natural hair color. I specifically migrated from Hair Style v2.0 after testing showed that it could introduce fantasy colors that did not match the actual service being sold.
  • YouCam Beard Style v2.0 15 real-world barber styles, from Goatee to full Bandholz.

How it works

The experience starts where a real beauty purchase starts: inside the salon's service catalog.

A customer opens a real salon or independent professional profile in GlamCode OS and sees the services they can actually book.

For eligible color, haircut, and beard services, GlamCode displays “Try It On.”

Behind that button is not a generic API demo.

GlamCode uses a service classifier to determine which type of service is being offered and routes the request to the appropriate YouCam capability.

The customer can select a photo from their device or take a new photo directly with their camera, so they can use the experience even if they do not already have a suitable photo in their gallery.

They then select the desired style or color and receive a generated preview.

If they like the result, the experience continues directly into the business workflow:

Try it → Decide → Book it.

The appointment is created in the salon's real GlamCode calendar, using the same booking system as any other appointment. Confirmation is then sent through WhatsApp to both the customer and the business.

I tested this complete flow with both salon/admin and independent-professional account types, deployed on Azure rather than only running it locally.

What I learned building this

The biggest lesson was that virtual try-on by itself is not the product.

A generated image can be impressive, but it does not solve the customer's decision problem unless it connects to what happens next.

The important product decision was therefore not simply “Where can I call a YouCam API?” It was:

“How do I make virtual visualization part of the decision and booking journey that already exists?”

That led to a deliberately narrow integration.

Instead of trying to support every possible beauty transformation, GlamCode focuses on the services the underlying business actually sells: hair color, haircuts, and beard styles.

Testing also changed the implementation. Hair Transfer was chosen over Hair Style because preserving the customer's natural hair color was more important for realistic salon use cases than generating more visually dramatic transformations.

This is what makes the integration meaningful to GlamCode: YouCam is not a separate destination. It becomes a new capability inside an existing retail workflow.

Honest limitations

The previews are decision-support tools, not guarantees of the final physical result.

Hair Transfer preserves natural hair color for most templates, but not every template behaves identically. Where applicable, GlamCode explicitly labels the output as a reference preview rather than presenting it as a guaranteed result.

The current scope intentionally covers color, haircuts, and beard styles. I did not add skincare or makeup simply to increase the number of APIs. The goal was to integrate capabilities that match the real services represented in the platform.

GlamCode also does not currently perform a separate pre-validation step to verify whether every uploaded photo is optimal for processing.

These constraints are part of the product design: the system is transparent about what the visualization can and cannot promise.

Why it matters

For customers, GlamCode reduces uncertainty before committing to a beauty service.

For salons and independent professionals, it turns their existing service catalog into an interactive discovery and conversion experience.

Instead of:

See a service → Guess the result → Book

the customer gets:

Choose or take a photo → See the service on yourself → Decide → Book → Receive confirmation

That is the core idea behind GlamCode OS.

Not another standalone virtual try-on.

A real beauty business workflow where virtual visualization helps the customer make the decision that matters: whether to book.
