Inspiration
We were inspired when talking what are plans might be after graduations. Before we knew it, we picked up on the problem for what we might do with all our old stuff. Hand-me-downs seemed like a very sustainable idea.
What it does
The website allows users, also referred to as "givers," to post listings for items they no longer need. Givers can leave a suggested price, but the intention is for students to receive the items for free. Givers can receive badges and decorations for their profile with each item they give away.
How we built it
We used basic HTML and CSS to construct the website.
Challenges we ran into
We were eager to create a messenger system between users, but unfortunately we ran low on time. Getting the website up and running with multiple pages and its own domain name was also a struggle, but we persevered.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The website functions with multiple pages and displays a number of clickable buttons and images. The formatting is clean and we even included Spike the UGA mascot as an Easter egg.
What we learned
Everyone on the team came in with little to no HTML or CSS experience. We all left with a strong grip on how HTML works, how to host a website, and even a little CSS.
What's next for Giving Node
We hope to expand the website to work for university students across America and theme each site with their school's colors.
