Inspiration
As much as I would like to say that I dreamed of being an astronaut or simply a person that has gone to space, thats not true for me. I am a tree hugger and love this blue floating rock called Earth. That changed slightly after I saw the photos from the James Web telescope. Those images sparked a curiosity in me to see what lies beyond the stars while also caring for Earth. Thus, I created the first company that supports various communities on Earth and space travel!
What it does
Every year thousands of companies give away millions of dollars to charities and non-profits. Giving Galaxy is a nonprofit that pairs donors with people that make the world a better place through volunteering. Donors can sign up for Giving Galaxy, transfer funds via Rapyd's virtual accounts to bypass wire transfer fees and credit card processing fees, pick a winner who has served their community and send them to space! Consider how Devpost is the intermediate for this hackathon, pairing companies with Hackers. Giving Galaxy does about the same thing only instead of hackers there are those that have served their community and the prize is a trip to space!
How we built it
Giving Galaxy was built with Rapyd's ewallet and virtual accounts as well as Javascript and Three.js.
Challenges we ran into
The Youtube tutorials made integrating Rapyd's virtual wallet easy. I did have some issue attempting the refund. Fun fact: I originally was not going to submit a project for this hackathon but it got pushed back a week, giving me time to put together this prototype. All of the code submitted was written in the last 4 days. I am actually writing this on a 9hr flight home :p Despite the challenges, I was able to come up with a decent presentation which should be a testament to how good Rapyd and the Rapyd community is.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Having a clean working prototype.
Documentation and Use Cases:
I didn't want to overdo the submission info so I created a google doc with some more info if you enjoyed this presentation and want to learn more. I added some additional photos above that show more on the virtual wallet transfer that was missing from the video. https://docs.google.com/document/d/17pBAtVj5hJkhROInI8QCawrRepmTkq6WD6He0-yRBZ0/edit?usp=sharing
