Inspiration

GiveGo was inspired by the frustration of wanting to donate but not knowing where to go. Local drives were hidden across flyers, Facebook posts, and word of mouth. We realized generosity wasn’t the issue—discoverability was. We envisioned a simple, map-first way to find nearby donation opportunities instantly and feel connected to community impact.

What it does

GiveGo centralizes local donation drives on an interactive map, letting users quickly find where to donate clothes, food, and essentials. Each pin shows items needed, urgency, and drop-off details. Organizers can create campaigns with photos and progress tracking. GiveGo makes giving effortless, real-time, and community-driven, transforming generosity into visible, local impact.

How we built it

We built GiveGo using a map-first interface with geolocation, custom pins, and category filters. A lightweight backend stores drives, items, and organizer profiles. Campaign pages display stories, needs, and progress bars. We added notifications, user profiles, and basic gamification. Our focus was creating a warm, intuitive, community-centered experience within limited time.

Challenges we ran into

Balancing simplicity with detail was difficult. Too much information overwhelmed users, while too little felt unclear. Building both donor and organizer flows under time pressure required constant prioritization. Integrating maps, filters, and campaign logic created technical challenges. We also faced the classic cold-start problem: ensuring the map felt meaningful with limited initial data.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of creating a polished, map-first donation experience that feels warm, intuitive, and genuinely helpful. We transformed fragmented, offline giving into a unified platform. Building campaign pages, real-time filters, and impact tracking in a short timeframe was a major achievement. Most importantly, we built something that could strengthen real communities.

What we learned

We learned how powerful maps are for helping users understand needs spatially and emotionally. Simplicity matters. Users want fast clarity, not complexity. We discovered how different donor and organizer expectations are and how to design for both. Most importantly, we learned generosity flourishes when friction disappears and community impact feels visible and immediate.

What's next for GiveGo

Next, we plan to onboard real organizers, integrate verification, and seed the map with ongoing drives. We’ll add richer analytics, improved item tracking, and community features like team challenges. Long-term, GiveGo can partner with cities, shelters, and universities to become the central platform for hyperlocal giving and volunteer-driven impact.
