Give 'n Go

Inspiration

The COVID-19 pandemic had devastating impacts on food security, and left many communities underfed. In the same geographical locations, restaurants continue to throw out food and contribute to carbon emissions. We found this disheartening; knowing that there are enough resources, just not the right allocation.

What it does

Our app connects restaurants with charities to donate their leftover foods. To ensure deliveries can occur without much organization, volunteer drivers can choose which donations they want to facilitate. As they deliver, they earn perks, and spread the word about food insecurity in the community!

How we built it

We built it through Figma, taking into account any possible interactive features we could add, for example, by researching how to make a draggable map, etc. We used images from free sources like Unsplash, iconfinder, etc, in order to bring it to life. Finally, in terms of design, we did research on different UX designs and created a layout, colour scheme and design we felt suited the app.

Challenges we ran into

There were many details needed in order to put together the prototype, and due to time constraints it was difficult to get every bit of the app done and connected. However, to get through this challenge, we prioritized the different functions and frames for the app so that we could finish up important parts in detail.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I think the fact that despite us all being beginner hackers, we managed to push through different challenges and pull it off in one day is something to be proud of. In terms of the project, the research and detail put into every aspect, whether that be the pitch, presentation, or the prototype itself, was something to be proud of as well.

What we learned

We learned to not only be able to adapt to different tools and enhance our skills in different areas, but also to be able to work together in a team, collaborate on different tasks, and have a good synergy and workflow.

What's next for Give 'n Go

Give ‘n Go is hoping to expand its networks to more geographical locations. We would also like to facilitate more donations, outside of food. Fast fashion is also an issue that needs to be addressed and instead of retail stores throwing away old items, they can donate it to fabric stores to upcycle and resell. We envision a sustainable society in which community members can contribute to making change!
