Inspiration
I've always had trouble finding the right gift for someone I was not especially close with. They might not need or want the presents I bought for them on occasions like birthday or holiday like Christmas. And so, we decided to gather the meaningful and interesting gifts from trustable e-commerce website like Uncommon Good and Etsy in one place. This became Give Genuine.
Our dream is to cheer on young spirits (like me!) as they work towards their own dreams. We hope that those stories written below each gifts will help bring them a purpose and direction in life and that those gifts will strengthen the relationships they form along the arduous journey.
In relationships, significant moments we share with each other are like wrinkles of time that differentiate one relationship from the other. This is the common dot that we form the fabric of understanding by building upon various links to meaning. When you take notice, certainly, it will become something meaningful and the genuine reason for us to be happy — as happiness cannot be pursued; it must be ensue.
What it does
Give Genuine is an online gift shop that young people love. Through an affiliate marketing partnership, consumers will be able to purchase meaningful gifts from external websites. We target people aged 15 to 27 years old because they exhibit emotional-based shopping style. According to research, this demographic is attracted to brands with multi-sensory storytelling that makes them feel personally connected to the brand itself.
Furthermore, most consumers this age have a modest income. When it is gift-giving time, they are in-market for affordable, yet meaningful options. Give Genuine makes it easier by providing a single platform for all of these already meaningful but affordable gifts. There is an opportunity to establish and grow a business by servicing this audience demographic.
How I built it
We used Wordpress and Microsoft azure as host.
Challenges I ran into
There was a big wifi disconnection problem. Some of us were sick. We couldn't get signed up on Microsoft Azure for a long long time. I've never done web development before. This is my first time making a website. It was difficult at first, but the mentors helped me out a lot. Also, affiliate marketing program for Uncommon Goods (the example website I used in this website) has to be set up through email with representative from them. I contacted them, but I think they don't reply to email on weekends. We also had trouble deciding what to work on as the final idea because of limited skills.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The website is up! We learned a lot this weekend and we are really thankful about it.
What I learned
I learned how to use Azure and a basic website up. We also learned to keep persisting and don't stop until I finish what I begin with.
What's next for Give Genuine
Initially, I plan to focus on using affiliate programs to earn commission from referrals I source as I build the site’s reputation. After that, I want to work directly with individual designers and artisans and develop unique business relationships with them in order to offer more customized options for my clients.
Since Give Genuine is optimized for discovering meaningful and unique presents, we will work on developing the Gift Consultants feature. Consultants can create curated list of recommendations and offer private sessions to help shoppers navigate the database. When a transaction is made, they will receive a percentage of the revenue. A community place will also be added for people to share what they found and answer each other’s questions.
Eventually, when we are big enough, we can build out our e-commerce offering to optimize the shopping experience for consumers, where they can place an order on our website for multiple items without dealing with multiple transactions and vendors.
Give Genuine will be the #1 hot spot for young people to buy gifts from—not just in the US, but globally!
