Inspiration
Having volunteered for well over a year at Unionville New Home Society, I dealt with feeding cognitively impaired seniors and realized how difficult it is and how messy it can get. As a result, by having automatic feeding done, one is able to streamline this problem.
What it does
It uses a camera to find your mouth and uses motors that simulate an arm moving food from the table below you to your mouth.
How We Built it
Using technology in popular machine learning libraries, and basic arduino coding tutorials.
Challenges We ran into
It was difficult to ensure that the movements of the arms match entirely so that the food went into the person's mouth.
What we learned
The judge's praise of the idea makes my team think that this is a worthwhile pursuit.
