Every month, 1.8 billion people across the world menstruate. Millions of these girls, women, and other people are unable to manage their menstrual cycle in a dignified, healthy way. The onset of menstruation means a new phase – and new vulnerabilities – in the lives of adolescents. At GIST, we have goals to make sure that menstruation hygiene products are free and accessible for everyone, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. With the use of advanced technology and science, GIST in ten years hopes that the stigmatization surrounding menstruation and periods will be reduced in Sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in rural communities. Girls in Science and Technology also purpose to raise female activists that will break the stereotype and waves and positive changes in their respective communities. What it does The GIST website helps to locate the sanitary pads dispenser, get a pin and be a benefactor of free menstrual hygiene products. The website also creates a safe place for everyone to speak and communicate on issues concerning menstruation and menstrual hygiene.

How we built it: The website was built with Bootstrap(HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and PHP for the form validation.

Challenges we ran into: At the point of completion, there was an error in the codes not knowing the issue was from the database. The website was meant to provide a four-digit pin instead it provided a ten-digit pin.

Accomplishments that we're proud of: My team and I are really happy about the outcome of the website because we were able to overcome the challenges encountered. What we learned: We learned that patience is important in building websites and we got to understand the programming languages more What's next for GIST: We hope to continue to provide free and accessible menstrual hygiene products.
