Inspiration
We're students and we wanted to make school less painful.
What it does
Gist takes in a PDF and produces a summary of all the key definitions, examples, and dates and provides you with a general overview of the whole document so you can:
- Get a better idea of what's important when studying & prioritize
- Have a good idea of what's happening in class even when you forget to read your textbook the day before your lecture
- Save time taking notes – and spend more time on what matters.... like HACKATHONS!
How we built it
Frontend: Tailwind, Next.Js, React.js, Flask Backend: Langchain, Python, OpenAI API
Challenges we ran into
Learning Tailwind, Next.js, React.js & Langchain from scratch, brainstorming ideas, and lack of sleep (although, for the record, I think we dealt with it pretty well.)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Having fun with friends & being optimistic even when this project has proved to be kinda hard :), choosing a hard project to learn instead of choosing something easy, and CONNECTING EVERYTHING TOGETHER! Also our frontend is kinda hot (totally not saying this as a first-time web developer)
What we learned
Main takeaways: How to speed learn something in 36 hours, make friends, and ask mentors so many questions that they ask you "What's the problem this time?"
What's next for Gist
Improved AI-model training & detection of mathematical formulas & rendering in LaTex & more fun :)
