Inspiration: The girls in Zambia drop out of school and are married off very young. The main driver for these problems is poverty.

What it does: GMSS trains girls in financial literacy, provides initial business capital and mentors.

How we built it: Through consultation with the girls themselves ,we design the initiative that resonate with their daily lifestyle.

Challenges we ran into: The girls could not access initial capital from their parents and financial institutions like banks. GMSS provide the required initial capital and business mentorship

Accomplishments that we're proud of: Girls are engaged in small businesses and are able to pay back the revolving funds with 10% interest. We are growing the capital from initial GBP 56250 to GBP 150000 that is continually being injected back into the project to reach more girls.

What we learned: If girls are given necessary tools and knowledge are able to engage into activities that are assumed to be for boys. They can excel with proper support and mentorship

What's next for Girls Money Savvy Initiative Through Sport. We would like to expand the initiative to other parts of the country and also we hope that in the future the Girls Money Savvy could be establish as a financial institution that would provide financial support to lady entrepreneurs.

Financial literacy and entrepreneurship are key to empowering girls in Zambia and Sub-Saharan Africa, effectively reducing poverty, a major cause of gender-based violence, stigma, and educational/entrepreneurial stereotypes. This initiative has successfully re-enrolled school dropouts and enabled girls to complete high school, significantly improving their financial independence. Financial literacy and entrepreneurship skills empower girls to challenge gender stereotypes, combat sexual and gender-based violence, and avoid early marriage. Girls who previously dropped out of school due to financial constraints are now re-enrolling, funding their education with profits from their own businesses.
