Inspiration

Femicide has been on the rise in Kenya. When femicide occurs, it is usually not an isolated incident for the perpetrator, signs are usually there. We wanted to create a safe space for women and girls to share their incidences as during my research I found out that women are usually afraid to share the stories because of shame and fear of being judged.

You can read this BBC article to learn more about femicide in Kenya: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-67987347

What it does

It is a platform for women to share their stories, warn others, learn from each other, get support and help on women violence and get awareness on femicides cases and how to protect and get help for themselves. They also get to educate themselves on femicide and common women health problems.

How we built it

I built it using Django framework and Gemini API.

Challenges we ran into

Learning what we could and couldn't do with Gemini and how to go about it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Just being able to put the app together.

What we learned

Graph reading and summary creation through web scrapping using Gemini API.

What's next for GirlCode

We are looking forward to be able to put it online.
