Mission Statement

Girl Powder was developed to help pregnant women get the nutrients they need in order to have a healthy pregnancy. The goal was to provide women with easy access to key vitamins and minerals that they would otherwise have difficulty obtaining as a part of their diet. We hoped that this product would help women in low-income areas or in third world countries who lack the funds or access to pharmacies that provide these nutrients.

In choosing the three components of Girl Powder, we looked for important ingredients that would also be difficult to overdose on. Our product contains folic acid, beta-carotene, and calcium in a twistable dispenser. Folic acid plays a key role in prenatal development and prevention of birth defects in the child. It is commonly found in foods such as lentils, beans, peas, nuts, avocado, dark green vegetables, and citrus fruit. Calcium is found in leafy greens, citrus fruits, milk, beans, and almonds. Beta-carotene is found in food such as squash, sweet potatoes, leafy greens, and carrots. However, these foods are not readily available for some women. With Girl Powder, women can ensure a regular intake of these nutrients by dissolving it in room temperature foods or liquids.

Designed to keep women healthy and safe, Girl Powder empowers women. With its powdered, concentrated nutrients, it's easy and safe for pregnant women to use.

Why "Girl Powder"?

Although the original concept for Girl Powder was based on the idea of tea bricks, blocks of finely ground and compressed tea leaves, we liked the idea of nutrients being both easy to consume and versatile in its consumption. Traditional bottles of pill capsules are inefficient for our target group because they require multiple bottles to cover the 9 month pregnancy period, thus making it more expensive for our target group as well as impractical in the effect the packaging has on the environment. Girl Powder provides an alternative to numerous trips to the pharmacy through its one-time purchase for each pregnancy. Each dosage is as simple as turning the dial on the bottom of the dispenser and using the cap to scrape off the top layer.

“Girl Powder” came from the phrase “girl power.” With our product, women are able to control part of their nutritional diet and provide a healthier future for them and their children.

We chose the pink dahlia flower for our logo because of its multiple meanings, but especially for its connotations of kindness, commitment, and inner strength. The colour pink represents compassion, nurturing, and a universal love of oneself and of others. The significance of this colour and flower carry the message that we hope to share to mothers around the world through Girl Powder.
