Inspiration
Fiada was inspired by a question that is beginning to demand an answer: as agents get more capable, how does the understanding of the human orchestrating them need to adapt? VS Code and other file editors show the code and a flat file explorer, but who reads 1,000 line diffs? The frontier labs’ solution is a black box chatbot that makes keeping up with architecture a pain. Nobody can deny that coding agents have revolutionized software engineering, but even the most AI-savvy will admit that the interface with the humans behind them has not evolved in step.
What it does
Fiada provides a configurable layer of abstraction between the two extremes: a dynamic view that allows developers to visualize complex projects and systems at different levels of complexity. After initialization, developers can modify their project’s abstract however they want, configuring it to mirror their mental model exactly. Fiada strips software down to its core ideas, ensuring that developers are delivered the right info at the right scope needed to ship their next feature.
How we built it
To build Fiada, we immediately sought guidance from its target audience: ourselves. A majority of our building time was spent discussing how we understand (and fail to understand) the code of the projects we work on. Though we quickly realized that we all understand the systems through abstract mental models, the solution of a configurable viewing format was much slower to arrive. Good things come to those who wait, however, and we eventually understood that the only way to create an interface that works for everyone is to empower users to shape their own.
