Inspiration

Our inspiration for this project was the theme restoration. With recent circumstances of Covid-19, small businesses have suffered tremendously. In aims to restore families and economies back to normal, we created a web application in which small businesses can create postings for projects or tasks they might require.

What it does

Small businesses can sign up as a business owner to create their business profile and create postings for what they are looking for. Similar to freelancing, students as well as other individuals looking for opportunities and experiences can apply to these postings and possibly earn an incentive.

How we built it

We used React for the front client side of the application, firebase for the userAuth, MongoDB as the database, and the backend using Node.js (express.js).

Challenges we ran into

Source Code: Due to the amount of school work we have, we couldn't complete the entire project, so the following is the client side of Gigs. We are planning to complete this project and deploy it in the near future. GitHub Repo -> link

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of being able to come up with and work through multiple aspects of the project along with the additional school work and assignments. We are satisfied with the simple yet effective design we were able to construct as it aligns well with the theme of restoration and is useful to many stakeholders involved.

What we learned

While looking into possible solutions, we learned that there is a lack of recognition on the challenges and hardships small businesses have faced as a result of Covid-19. Bringing awareness to these issues will assist people in recognizing the status of the smaller owned business, and recognize ways they can support them.
