Inspiration

A lot of us spend our weekends sitting at home scrolling through our phones with nothing to do. Meanwhile, older neighbors often need a quick hand with physical chores like raking leaves, moving boxes, or assembling furniture but don't want to hire an expensive contractor. We built GigDrop to give students a productive way to use their free time, earn some fast cash, and build awesome, trusting relationships with the people right in their own community.

What it does

GigDrop is a live, interactive map for hyper-local micro-gigs. A community member drops a "bounty" pin on the map with a description and a price. A nearby student sees the pin, walks over, and completes the task.

To keep everything secure and trustless, GigDrop uses an automated escrow system. If a task is listed for $10, we charge the neighbor $12 upfront. The money is held safely in the cloud until the student uploads a "job done" photo. Once verified, the payout is calculated using a simple 80/20 split:

Pstudent = Ptotal x 0.8 Pplatform_fee = Ptotal x 0.2

The student instantly receives their $10, and our platform keeps the $2 commission!
