Inspiration

We were inspired by the Tamagotchi, GigaPet and Pokemon craze of our early 90's childhood and we thought it would be interesting to take a similar approach towards caring for family members and friends with Type-2 diabetes.

What It Does

Glü utilizes a cloud based AR-AI buddy to communicate with you throughout the day. Think of it as GigaPet that checks in and helps you manage your Type-2 diabetes.

Through a combination of voice, wearable devices and sensors Glü is able to aggregate all of your data to then generate a profile and let others know how you are doing. This allows those in your virtual network to encourage you as well as see how you are doing by gamifying interactions through your virtual "pal".

How We Built It

With all the technologies available to us and the prevalence of IoT devices Glü promises to enable real-time management of diabetes. For our solution we wrote a cloud back end in C# and also used Twilio's API to sms and voice call to track insulin and medication usage for our proof of concept. In the future we will be integrating a couple pieces of hardware including the FrontRow camera and an Ardiuno or Jibo robot to act as a physical embodiment of your virtual pal.

Challenges We Ran Into

The biggest issue we faced was time management. We wanted to accomplish much more but were limited by our day to day availability. Despite that we are happy that the competition sponsors chose to focus the first stage on the idea rather than the full on implementation as we will definitely need funding!

Accomplishments That We Are Proud Of

We were successful in generating app mockups and designs that will go a long way when we fully build out our app. We also have really bonded as team in regards to the idea and it's potential to impact lives.

What We Learned

3D animation is not easy and AR is very expensive! Some of the SDK's are in the 5k range. We are still learning a lot but we are getting better in the process!
