Inspiration
Every year I end up having to think a month before holidays and birthdays so that I can get people good gifts. Sometimes I have good ideas, other times I'm completely stumped.
What it does
The basic idea is that you are able to create account, add friends, and create wishlists containing links to products. You can view your friend's wishlists if the list has the appropriate visibility setting. There are 4 friend types: acquaintance, friend, family, and intimate. You can set wishlists to be viewable by certain friend types, all friends, or no friends.
note: This idea is a scaled down version of the final product I eventually want to build. The full build would give gift recommendations based on user inputted data such as hobbies, favorite color, shoe size, etc.
How we built it
Front end was built using react. Server side uses firebase
Challenges we ran into
I went solo and greatly underestimated the amount of work everything would take. As a result, I still don't have anywhere close to a finished product. I also have never worked with front end (React before).
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud I managed to cobble together some sites and a buggy authentication system
What we learned
Learned a lot about React, connecting between server and client. Since I did full-stack, I know how to efficiently structure my files and organize everything.
What's next for gifty
This was originally a personal project idea, so it's going to be developed fuller.
