Inspiration

GiftMind was born from a simple problem that almost everyone has experienced: struggling to choose the right gift for someone they care about. People often spend too much time scrolling through marketplaces, searching for ideas on social media, or asking friends because they are afraid of giving gifts that feel generic and impersonal. We realized that gifting is not just about buying something—it is about showing care and understanding someone. That idea led us to build GiftMind — an AI-powered gifting assistant that helps users discover more personal, relevant, and thoughtful gift ideas based on relationship, interests, occasion, and budget. Beyond that, we wanted to explore how AI could support decision-making in everyday situations in a more human and meaningful way.

What it does

GiftMind is an AI-powered personalized gifting assistant that helps users generate thoughtful and personalized gift recommendations quickly. Users simply provide information such as: relationship with the recipient gender age occasion interests and hobbies budget The AI then generates multiple gift recommendations complete with: gift name category estimated price description reasoning behind why the gift fits (“Why It Fits”) The application also supports PDF export so users can save or share their recommendations easily.

GiftMind’s main goal is to help users: reduce decision fatigue discover more meaningful gifts make the gifting process feel more personal

How we built it

GiftMind was built using MeDo as an AI-native development environment. We used an AI-driven workflow to: structure the application build the UI generate application logic accelerate iteration and refinement The development process started from prompts and initial ideas, then continued through: AI-assisted planning UI generation form handling recommendation workflow export functionality user experience refinement The frontend was designed with a bold and memorable visual style to create a distinctive identity compared to typical AI applications. AI is used to generate more personalized gift recommendations based on user inputs and provide reasoning through the “Why It Fits” feature.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was making AI recommendations feel genuinely personal instead of looking like a random product list. We needed to ensure that: recommendations remained relevant to the budget outputs felt natural recommendation reasoning made sense and results stayed easy to read Another challenge was balancing: simplicity in the UI with the amount of information presented in recommendation results. We also had to design the experience to remain fast and intuitive without making the workflow feel overly complex.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we successfully built an AI consumer-facing application that is: usable visually distinctive and delivers real value for everyday users Some achievements we are most proud of: creating a clear and easy-to-use recommendation flow the “Why It Fits” feature that makes AI feel more thoughtful PDF export functionality a unique and memorable visual identity fast development using MeDo’s AI-native workflow We are also proud of turning a simple idea into an application that people can actually use.

What we learned

Through this project, we learned that AI is not only useful for automation but can also help people make more personal and meaningful decisions. We also learned: the importance of UX in AI applications how to make AI output feel more human the importance of reasoning over generation alone and how AI-native workflows can significantly accelerate development. We also realized that simple consumer AI products with clear value can often be more impactful than overly complex applications.

What's next for GiftMind AI

Moving forward, we want to evolve GiftMind into a more intelligent and personalized gifting platform. Some future plans include: personality-based gift recommendations marketplace / e-commerce integrations collaborative gifting AI memory for user preferences conversational recommendation refinement visual gift previews mobile-friendly experiences smarter emotional and contextual understanding Our long-term vision is to make GiftMind better at understanding relationships and user preferences so recommendations feel even more personal.
