Inspiration

We were inspired by the feeling of not knowing what gifts to get for loved ones or forgetting their birthday. This idea taps into the emotional aspect of gift-giving—wanting to show care and appreciation but feeling overwhelmed by options or the fear of getting it wrong. We wanted a way to get someone a gift that they would love and use. Inspired by social media applications, we wanted a way to connect with friends and see their wishlists.

What it does

You can create an account and create a list full of your ideal gifts and interests. From there, you can connect with friends and have access to their wish lists. You can view the calendar for suggestions and reminders about birthdays and holidays.

How we built it

We developed our project using React for the frontend, HTML and CSS for styling, and PostgreSQL for the database.

Challenges we ran into

A few challenges we faced include the initial set up, learning how to use APIs and how to connect to databases.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the amount of pages we were able to complete and how much we were able to learn about creating a website.

What we learned

We gained valuable experience in both front-end and back-end development, learning what it takes to transform an idea into a fully functional application.

What's next for GiftGivr

In the future, we hope to implement AI gift suggestions using the interests that the user inputs. Furthermore, each gift idea can have suggested links and images to specify exactly what a user wants. After log in, the user will be able to view recommendations and reminders specific to certain days that they select.
