Inspiration

Have you ever struggled with finding a perfect gift and spend hours looking through the generic websites that give a boring selection of gifts? We came up with an idea to create a website that curates a personalized selection of gifts that are perfect to one's personality type.

What it does

At Gift Genie, users have the option to either chat with a bot or take a personality test. Our chatbot engages users in a conversational manner to understand their preferences, while the personality test assesses their unique traits. Based on this information, Gift Genie curates a personalized selection of gifts tailored to each user's personality. Whether you prefer the convenience of chatting with our bot or the insightful results of the personality test, Gift Genie ensures that you find the perfect gift every time.

We used HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

Challenges we ran into

During our project research, we encountered significant obstacles regarding the cost and time required to build and train a chatbot. Recognizing these limitations, we explored alternative solutions, including leveraging Machine Learning (ML) APIs. While these APIs offered access to valuable insights and predictions, they required financial investment. We carefully weighed the need for accurate data against our budget constraints to make an informed decision for our project's success. Additionally, we encountered challenges with merge conflicts in GitHub, which we actively addressed to maintain project integrity and efficiency.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite encountering numerous challenges and enduring sleep deprivation, our team was fortunate to cultivate a close collaboration. Together, we pushed ourselves beyond our limits, nurturing exceptional communication and mutual support within the group. Despite the adversities, our collective effort empowered us to surmount obstacles and achieve remarkable progress. We take great pride in our overall idea and the design of our UI/UX front-end, reflecting our dedication and innovation throughout the project.

What we learned

We learned how to how to collaborate as a team together using liveshare. Throughout this process, we shared and absorbed diverse concepts spanning front-end, back-end, machine learning, APIs, and beyond.

What's next for Gift Genie

To develop and train a fully functional chatbot capable of displaying real-time results, we gather data and train multiple datasets to offer personalized recommendations aligned with users' preferences and interests. Additionally, we aim to enhance our personality test to provide more accurate estimations. We plan to integrate a decision tree ML algorithm to improve the chatbot's decision-making process. Furthermore, we are exploring potential partnerships with businesses and sponsors to offer a wider range of gifts and incentives.
