I grew up seeing millions of students in Northern Nigeria struggle in school. The reason? 90% of learning apps and online content are in English. Many Hausa-speaking students drop out because they don't understand the language of instruction. I was inspired to build GIDA AI so that no child is left behind because of language.

What it does

GIDA AI is a Mobile AI Tutor that speaks 100% fluent Hausa. Students can ask any question in Math, Science, English, or any subject and get instant step-by-step answers in Hausa.

How we built it

We built GIDA AI using AI language models fine-tuned for Hausa, a mobile-first design, and optimized for offline use. The app works with minimal data so students in rural areas can still learn.

Challenges we ran into

1. Limited Hausa training data for AI models
2. Making the app work well on low-end phones
3. Designing for students with low internet connectivity

What we learned

We learned that language is the biggest barrier to education in Africa. When students learn in their mother tongue, they understand faster and stay in school longer.

What's next for GIDA AI

1. Launch Premium subscriptions using RevenueCat for unlimited questions
2. Add offline mode for no-internet areas
   
3. Reach 1 million Hausa-speaking students in Year 1
4. Expand to other Nigerian languages

Our mission: Put a teacher in every student's pocket across West Africa. By using mother tongue, we can reduce dropout rates and improve learning outcomes.
