As a secondary school student in Nigeria, I saw how many classmates struggle with learning because everything is taught in English. This creates anxiety, low confidence, and poor results. Students feel stressed and disconnected. I wanted to build something that makes learning feel safe and happy in their mother tongue.

What it does

Gida AI is an AI-powered tutor that explains school subjects in fluent Hausa. It reduces learning stress and supports the mental wellness of students by making education accessible and friendly. Students can ask any question 24/7 without fear of judgment.

How we built it

Frontend: Flutter for mobile app
AI Brain: Google Gemini API for answering questions
Language: Focused on Hausa with cultural context
Features: Voice input, text explanations, step-by-step solutions

Challenges I ran into

Making AI understand Hausa slang and school terms properly
Keeping responses simple for secondary school level
Designing the app to feel calming and not overwhelming

What I learned

I learned that technology can directly improve mental wellness. When students learn in their own language, their confidence goes up and stress goes down. Education should be accessible to everyone.

What's next

Add more Nigerian languages like Yoruba and Igbo. Add voice notes so students can speak to Gida AI. Partner with schools to reach 60M+ Hausa speakers.
