Inspiration: This song deals with the numbness and lack of inspiration we can find ourselves battling against. It serves as a reminder that we can find inspirations within ourselves. We just need to listen to our own heartbeats, our souls, our spirits and what the universe and God wants us to discover and reveal.
What it does: It is my hope that with this song - which is a combination of sung vocals and spoken word - I can provide dialogue about the feelings of numbness or even dejectedness that many of us can find ourselves in as we go through the motions of life and what is immediately expected of us on a daily basis.
How we built it: I put together this song and music video with a combination of tools. I used Suno to create the deep house sound I was seeking for this piece - creating deep beats along with a jazzy and soulful quality to the sound. I used CapCut to put various images together and edit each of the scenes in the video to create a kind of ethereal texture to the video. I created the female persona in the video using the ArtsEnvoy platform and used Pippit to generate a video from her likeness.
Challenges we ran into: I ran into several challenges as I was putting together and editing the video in CapCut. I think my layers and effects were a bit too heavy for the CapCut Online application to render and export. As a result, after multiple attempts to export my CapCut video file, I ended up screen recording my completed music video using the Loom application. I hope that I can eventually resolve the export issues I was having by either migrating to the CapCut Desktop application or another video editing software to support all the elements I have put together.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: I am proud of the work I put into this piece and because it comes from a very deeply personal place, I am proud to be able to share my inner thoughts and feelings through music and artistic visuals.
What we learned: I learned that I was very determined to showcase this piece to others, and through my determination I was able to find a workaround using Loom to enable me to submit this piece to Chroma Awards and will hopefully be able to share a more refined version to a broader audience in the future.
What's next for Ghosting My Own Heartbeat: I would like to refine the audio and transitions of this piece, and get assistance and feedback from others with greater experience in the video editing sphere to help me improve on this video and hopefully others I plan to create in the future.
