Over 90% of startups fail — but what if we could learn from their mistakes and bring them back smarter? GhostFolio was inspired by the idea that startup post-mortems shouldn’t die in archives. We wanted to reimagine failure as a foundation for innovation.
GhostFolio is a platform that catalogs failed startups and uses AI (powered by Gemini) to suggest pivot strategies, business revamp names, and revival viability scores. Users can explore each startup’s downfall and get AI-powered suggestions to potentially revive or rethink the idea.
Frontend was built using Bolt.new for its fast prototyping and AI-native interface.
We used mock data enriched from real failed startups and enhanced it with Wikipedia links.
The AI block integrates the Gemini API to generate:
- Pivot strategies
- Viability score
- Business name revamps
We hit API rate limits and switched from OpenAI to Gemini for stability and cost-efficiency. Also, integrating dynamic prompts into Bolt’s GPT blocks took multiple tries to get just right.
